LimeQR

Free Wi-Fi QR code generator

Type your network name and password, download the code, and guests join by pointing their camera at it. The code is generated in your browser: the network name and password are not sent to any server.

Fill in the form and your code appears here.

A Wi-Fi code is static: it holds the network details directly and works without LimeQR.

How to use it

  1. Enter the network name exactly as it appears on your router, including capitals and spaces.
  2. Pick the security type. Most home and office networks use WPA / WPA2 / WPA3. Choose No password for an open network.
  3. Enter the password and download the code as SVG or PNG.
  4. Scan it with a phone before you print it, then stick it where guests can see it.

Questions

Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?

No. The code is built in your browser with JavaScript. This page has no form submission and makes no request with what you type.

Does this QR code expire?

No. A Wi-Fi code contains the network name and password themselves, so it does not depend on any service. If you change the password on your router, the old code stops working and you need a new one.

Which phones can scan it?

The camera app on current iPhone and Android phones reads Wi-Fi codes and offers to join the network. Very old devices may need a scanner app.

Which characters need escaping?

The backslash, semicolon, comma, colon and double quote have a special meaning in the Wi-Fi format. This tool escapes them for you, so passwords containing them work.

Need to change the destination after printing?

LimeQR dynamic codes point to a short link you can edit. Change the destination after printing, paid once: $19.
